Adventure Games
We’ll go on a scavenger hunt and play various adventure games on and off the low ropes course.
Camping and Backpacking, including an overnight camping experience at the UMD Challenge Course
Learn the ins and outs of packing a backpack, setting up a tent, and cooking in the outdoors. Then test your skills as you spend an overnight with counselors and fellow campers at the UMD Challenge Course. Climb the Alpine Tower at night and share stories with each other as you make s’mores before spending your last night of Terp Quest Teen Adventure camp in a tent.
High and Low Ropes Challenges
Experience low ropes challenges while focusing on confidence, teamwork, personal growth, and developing leadership skills. Then build on those skills as you climb the Alpine Tower with your teammates. Make your way around the high ropes course by walking on cables, logs, and rope loops while working with a partner on the ground who’s there to follow your progress and enjoy the experience with you as you discover what you’re capable of. Finally, test your mettle as you take the Leap of Faith while being cheered on by your fellow campers below.
Kayaking
Get wet n’ wild in the indoor pool while learning the basics of kayaking. You’ll learn about kayak gear and safety, paddling strokes, and get comfortable manuevering a kayak around.
Orienteering and Geocaching
Learn to use a map and compass while orienteering on the UMD campus. Then take the next step into the modern era using a hand held GPS device to do some geocaching. Working in small teams, you’ll navigate a pre-designed campus orienteering course with the help of satellites that track where you are and lead you toward your goal.
Rock Climbing & Belaying
There’s so much more to climbing than just one hand and one foot after the other. We’ll focus on teaching you climbing techniques on our 55' rock wall, in addition to learning to belay for other climbers. Imagine the thrill of helping another climber reah his/her goal on the wall while keeping them safe.
Swimming
What would camp be without the chance to cool off on those hot summer days? This program includes a few opportunities for swimming in the Campus Recreation Services outdoor pool.
